Individuals born on or after January 1, 1988, operating a vessel with 10 horsepower or more must pass a boater safety course and possess the required identification. Anchoring or operating a vessel in a way that unreasonably interferes with other vessels’ navigation is also prohibited. Vessel owners and operators are responsible for carrying, storing, maintaining, and using safety equipment required by the U.S. Coast Guard, including USCG-approved personal flotation devices for each person onboard. The state of Florida encourages all individuals on board a boat to wear a life jacket.
