About Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway was an American author who lived from 1899 to 1961. He was raised in Illinois before serving as an ambulance driver in World War I. He lived in Paris with his first wife for a while after the war. He went on to write several works that would later be considered classics of American literature. His most famous novels include A Farewell to Arms, The Sun Also Rises, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Hemingway maintained his Key West estate from the 1930s until his death.
About the The Hemingway Estate
Hemingway lived in his Key West home full-time from 1931 to 1939, during which time he wrote To Have and Have Not. Today, guests are welcome to stroll through the Ernest Hemingway Home to get a glimpse into the author’s life and discover what life might have been like in the 1930s. Guided tours are offered, or guests may opt to find their way through the estate on their own. Not only can guests walk through the home itself, but they can also explore the pool, gardens, and the rest of the grounds (which have some wonderful plant life!).
